Overview
This role plays a pivotal role in shaping the auditory experience of our games. Overarching
responsibilities include composing music and sound effects across various genres, aligning them with the
vision of our game designers, and tailoring them to the preferences of our players. Daily responsibilities
include composing music and sound effects that enhance the overall gameplay experience and support
all graphic elements of our games. Sound Designers collaborate closely with Game Designers/Producers,
Project Managers/Product Owners, Technical Artists, and Developers to ensure seamless integration of
sound and music into our games. The role functions within a cross-functional game development team
including Producers, Project Managers, Graphic Artists, Mathematicians, Software Developers, Technical
Artists, and Test Engineers. Audio designers work on a variety of game products and technical elements
of IGT products that depend on the Studio’s product mix and project assignments. With proven
expertise in the game industry this role creates soundscapes that resonate with players, keeping in mind
market trends and player preferences.
Responsibilities
Perform project assignments and work tasks with minimal oversight by supervisor or mentor.
• Compose, record, integrate, and enhance music and sound effects using standard industry
software in a wide variety of styles including popular and common musical genres as well as
abstract forms of music.
• Design, develop, synchronize, and implement innovative and engaging audio and sound effects
tailored to a target market synchronized to animations and game events.
• Create and integrate sound effects that are representative of widely diverse game themes and
geographic regions.
• Facilitate and integrate voiceovers as needed.
• Contribute to the game design by supporting the determination of the game presentation and
audio interplay.
• Develop an audio identity for each product while keeping all elements consistent in style for
both the base game and subsequent bonus games.
• Test different styles of composition, timing, and techniques to fully utilize IGT’s state of the art
game engine.
• Conveys the significance of game elements by design and function.
• Executes an idea from the ideation stage to production and conceptualizes the audible aesthetic
of a game.
• Assist software engineers in implementing the sound scheme while ensuring proper
synchronization to graphics.
• Participate in interdepartmental communication and meetings.
Continuous improvement activities to maximize the use of existing technology, leverages design efficiencies, and evaluate design packages and tools.
• Able to support or mentor lower-level team members as needed.
Qualifications
Previous experience composing music in a variety of styles, utilizing different instruments,
integrating sound effects, recording voiceovers, or other relevant experience.
• Experience with industry standard audio software.
• Post-secondary diploma or bachelor’s degree in fine arts, music, sound design, sound recording
technology, or equivalent education & experiential knowledge.
• Ability to resolve common computer issues including fonts or software/driver updates.
• Ability to use systems to organize and keep track of information including Basecamp, Jira,
shared docs, and calendars.
• Excellent interpersonal, spoken, written, and visual communication skills.
• High degree of innovation, analytical ability, and creative, technical, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently while remaining accountable to the objectives and evolving
priorities of a larger cross-functional team.
• Practice positive intent and be responsive to feedback and change.
• Awareness of evolving audio trends in entertainment.
• Proficiency with version control software.
Preferred Qualifications:
• 4+ years of experience working in the casino gaming design industry preferred, however, other
fields including television and video game experience are relevant.
• Previous experience engineering music, developing audio for video, or writing original content.
• Knowledge of core demographic and user-experience requirements.
